Attorney L. Chris Stewart named ‘Attorney of the Year’ for the State of Georgia

ATLANTA, Ga. — (November, 11, 2016) — Atlanta attorney L. Chris Stewart, managing partner at Stewart, Seay & Felton Trial Attorneys, was this week named ‘Attorney of the Year’ by Daily Report, a leading publication providing information about the business and profession of law for lawyers practicing law in Georgia.

Daily Report tapped a panel of esteemed Georgia lawyers to select five finalists for the award from a large pool of qualified nominees. The other finalists included Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, King & Spalding partner Harold Franklin, Georgia Public Defender Standards Council Director Brian Tyson and Holland & Knight partner Charles Johnson and AT & T in-house counsel Suzanne Ockleberry, who were co-nominees for their work with Advocacy for Action which advocates for diversity on the bench.

Stewart was selected for his nationally recognized work representing victims of police violence and their families, and his nationwide public speaking on how to resolve community versus police issues. Stewart serves as lead attorney for some of the highest-profile cases in the past few years, including Gregory Towns, the Atlanta man tased to death by East Point police officers, Walter Scott, the South Carolina man shot in the back and killed by a North Charleston police officer as he ran, Alton Sterling, the Baton Rouge man whose shooting death by police was captured on video and Chase Sherman, who died after being tased multiple times by Coweta County Deputies.

According to Stewart, this award is significant because it was awarded by his peers. “I’m honored to be recognized by my colleagues for this very prestigious award,” said Stewart. “I fight hard for families around the country every day and bringing them justice is my greatest reward.” The selection panel consisted of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears, Frank Strickland of Strickland & Brockington, Michael Terry of Bondurant Mixon, Lizanne Thomas of Jones Day, former deputy U.S. Attorney General Larry Thompson and Phyllis Holmen of GA Legal Services.
